The Story
Life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with melanoma in 2023. Facing the most malignant form of skin cancer, I did everything I could to survive. Thanks to the dedicated care of doctors and surrounding support, I am healthy. But what came next was solely up to me.
After learning that regular clothes offer little sun protection, I discovered UPF clothing. But the sun-protective clothing options were limited to activewear, or styles that didn't fit my aesthetic. I felt unrepresented in this space, and after speaking with others, I knew I was not alone.
That's when I considered my go-to clothing choice, and a staple item found in every closet - a white tee. My mission became clear: I would update the classic white tee to protect our skin from the sun. But it was not that simple. I needed a team of innovators in both science and fashion to bring this idea to life. Shade was born from this collaboration to bring you elevated, sun-protective basics.
The Sun is so far from the Earth yet we live our lives in its constant presence. Shade offers us a life in the sun, because no one should have to hide from the light.
I’d love to hear your story and what you’re looking for in this new, effortless era of skin wellness. Connect with me directly at jess@shadeupf.com or follow along on our social channels.
My journey is ours to share. Thank you for joining.
